Our approach
Navigation Guidance Model
Help make the path clearer without taking away the choice.
A human-centered approach to purpose, evidence, truth, responsible next steps, and continued assurance.
Explore the approachFinding a way forward is different from being given an answer.
We want to help make the path clearer without taking the decision away from the person walking it.
The Navigation Guidance Model is the approach we are developing for that work: begin with purpose, preserve evidence, tell the truth about uncertainty, make the next responsible step visible, and keep human choice in view.
PURPOSE
Begin with what the person is trying to accomplish.
A technically correct answer can still miss the reason someone asked the question.
Before deciding what should happen next, we want to understand the goal, the circumstances, and what a useful outcome would actually mean for the person involved.
Purpose gives the rest of the work a direction.
EVIDENCE & TRUTH
Separate what is known from what is assumed.
Good guidance depends on a trustworthy picture of reality.
That means keeping evidence connected to the conclusions drawn from it, distinguishing observation from inference, and saying clearly when something remains uncertain.
Progress is not the same as readiness. Confidence is not proof. Activity is not evidence that the intended outcome has been reached.
THE NEXT STEP
Make the next responsible step visible.
Complexity becomes easier to navigate when the entire road does not have to be solved at once.
We want to preserve what has already been learned, show the boundaries that matter, and make the next responsible step understandable enough to act on.
If the evidence changes, the route should be allowed to change too.
HUMAN AGENCY
Guidance should not quietly become control.
The purpose of navigation is not to choose another person’s path for them.
A useful system can explain options, surface consequences, preserve context, and point out risk. The meaningful choice should remain visible to the person who has the authority to make it.
We want technology to increase understanding, capability, confidence, and agency—not replace them.
CONTINUED ASSURANCE
Keep checking the route after movement begins.
A decision can be reasonable when it is made and still need to change later.
New evidence appears. Conditions shift. A person experiences the result differently than expected.
Navigation therefore does not end with a recommendation or a launch. It includes returning to the evidence, checking the human outcome, and correcting course when the truth requires it.
Paving the way forward
We do not expect every road to be easy or every answer to be certain.
The aim is simpler: listen before judging, make boundaries visible, preserve what has been learned, tell the truth with compassion, and help another person see a responsible way forward.
Not to decide their future.
To help make the path clear enough that they can decide it for themselves.
